Pride more than ever!
Like every June, at Toormix we stand up for the rights of LGTBIQA+ people — and in this 25th anniversary year, even more so.
This year’s project aims to highlight the diversity of the collective and the many forms of dissidence it includes. To truly connect with all identities, we must name them and normalize the plurality that defines us. In a context where real inclusion still doesn’t exist — where physical, psychological, and symbolic violence persist, and where institutions avoid taking a clear stance — we must become visible, empower ourselves, and claim our space. In the face of a global reactionary wave and weak institutional responses — marked by empty campaigns closer to pinkwashing than to truly transformative public policy — the answer must come from the grassroots. Only then can we build a society free of prejudice, where everyone can live their identity fully.
Inspired by the iconic pre-Olympic campaign “Barcelona More Than Ever” and changing just one letter, we’ve reimagined the slogan to spotlight diversity beyond the G — the letter most socially accepted because it represents men. We must break with the gay-centric view as the sole representation of the community. To ignore the rest of the LGTBIQA+ acronym is to stop halfway. Our community is broad, rich, and complex.
This campaign is also an exercise in intersectionality. Racialized, migrant, and economically vulnerable people often face overlapping forms of violence, and that’s why we’ve included terms and expressions that, through reappropriation, help us heal and reflect this complexity. Taking back slurs and derogatory words — local and international — is a political act: we decolonize language, challenge hierarchies imposed by eurocentrism, whiteness, and cishetero norms. Including words from the Global South or countries governed by the far right — like Hungary, Italy, the U.S., or Argentina — acknowledges that this struggle is global. Through language, we weave solidarity and amplify silenced realities.
We also denounce the deliberate erasure of the QA+ letters by trans-exclusionary and non-binary-negating discourses. Erasing them is denying the existence of many people and diminishing the richness of the community.
Happy Pride and take care, everyxone! 🌈
